Meet Jolene!

Jolene has been with her new foster family for about a week now and she has proven to be a really sweet pup. Jolene is approximately 2 years old, weighs 35lbs, is up to date on all shots, is spayed, & is a very healthy, good-looking dog! She gets along great with her Labrador foster sister and her GSP foster brother. She absolutely loves a good rope toy and she will play tug-of-war for as long as your are willing to!! Jolene took her first trip to the dog park a few days ago and she rides well in the car. You can see below that this little darlin' stayed in the back with her foster sister like a good pup. :)

Jolene is great in the house. She is perfectly crate-trained (she doesn't make a peep when we put her in for the night!). Jolene is also housetrained and will lightly scratch on the door when she needs to go out. Jolene really enjoys the comforts of being indoors (as you can see below) so it is very nice that she's so well behaved in the house!
Jolene is proving to be a quick student and is learning at an impressive rate! We knew that Jolene had a problem with counter-surfing before we started fostering her, so the first couple of days that we had her we baited the counters (aka, left a tasty treat on the counter). Jolene jumped on our counters 3 times the first day (we caught her & corrected her each time), 2 times the 2nd day (again, caught & corrected her each time) and she hasn't done it since then. That was a pretty quick success!!

Jolene is a food-motivated dog, which makes her much easier to train. We've been working on having her sit and wait for permission before going in or out of a door and she is picking it up really quickly. She knows 'sit' well now, and is starting to hold the 'sit' command for several seconds (which is a really tough lesson for most dogs!). When we took her to the dog park she stayed close to us, rather than run off to play with other pups or investigate smells (which is pretty rare for a GSP - most of them bolt off as fast as they can go!). A dog that stays close to you naturally is MUCH easier to train to be off-leash!

I think Jolene is a gem! She's very trainable, is already great in the house (crate-trained & house-trained), is great with other dogs and she's great with people. If you are interested contact: gsp911@yahoo.com and ask for an adoption application!
